THE QUILT SERIES is created as a network of tightly interwoven patterns, juxtaposed color tones, carefully balanced to vibrate deeply with each other. I use combinations of a variety of media fragments - printmaking (hand-tinted linoleum cuts) drawing, watercolor, acrylic and oil painting. Some pieces are computer derived (from scans of my oil paintings), printed onto art papers, reworked by hand with archival colored pencils, pens, markers - acrylic and oil paint - then collaged into larger portions and mounted on canvas covered board.
After a career of using recognizable objects, I have become interested in what emotions and feelings can be conveyed through the use of color, line, texture etc. Harmony, discord, counterpoint.... And in Quilts themselves, a personal form of art historically exclusively attributed to women.
